Name That Tune?
I drove into Pittsburgh about a week before Christmas to do some stuff for my parents, and on the way in I had DVE on the radio. For those of you unfamiliar with the Burgh's airwaves, WDVE (102.5 FM) is a classic-rock station, but it also airs the Stiller games, so they yak about the team a good bit in between the Bachman-Turner Overdrive and the Kansas. As I was coming across the Highland Park Bridge on a cold shiny morning, they played a song about the Steelers and Benny R., and it was great. Almost pull-over-to-the-curb-and-crank-it-up great. (Somewhat problematic in the middle of a bridge.) Old-school type rock music behind the words, and it sounded way more professional than most fan anthems. I can't recall many of the words now, but the refrain contained the line "when Big Ben strikes six" with the obligatory clock chimes bonging in the background.
The DJ on the radio at the time did not give the name or the band, an omission which peeved me greatly. So once I got to my folks' place, I called up WDVE and tried to speak to someone who could tell me who and where that song came from, in the hopes that I could snag a copy before I headed back to Blair County the next day. I got as far as leaving a voicemail with my cell number for the music director, but I never heard back from her, nada, zip. Next time I drive in with 96.9.
So I've been Googling on anything I can think of that might locate the song's title or even an MP3, but no luck. I don't do P2P anymore so I haven't tried that method, but it's tempting. WDVE's website has a bunch of homemade Steeler songs posted at
http://www.dve.com/sports/steelers/songs.html
but not the one I am after (although the one called "We've got Roethlisberger and it sure is nice" is pretty amusing, especially if you're a Parrothead). But, maybe someone out here in Blogland knows what the hell this song is, and can offer a lead, or is willing to email me a file, or obtain and snailmail me a hardcopy in exchange for a check, or whatever it takes.
It's so way kewl, I gotta come up with it somehow. Hellllllp...

Previews Of Coming Attractions?
Oh dear, another link today from Rowdy over at Honest Wagner, since I made an Honest Wagnerian icon for him to put on his excellent blog. I feel like I am not earning the mentions he gives me over there, because I don't have anything like a regular posting schedule here, particularly during the baseball off-season. Would you like to hear how the Tyrone Golden Eagles made it to the PIAA AA semifinal (football) game before losing a squeaker to Grove City? I didn't think so.
I've got to do a better job with posting in the future, but it's going to have to wait until after the holidays are over.
Things to come:
1. DogBoy and I have plans to attend the Hot Stove Banquet for the Altoona Curve toward the end of January, so that should be worth reporting on during the long dark winter's night of my soul. Ex-Curve manager Dale Sveum (with his Red Sox Ring) and Adam-the-God-of-Altoona Hyzdu are slated to be in attendance. Top 2004 draft pick Neil Walker is also on the list. Do you think Sveumer will let people try his ring on for a sec? Wouldn't that be great if he did?
2. Then we will be back in Florida in early March for our hope-it's-becoming-a-habit trip to Spring Training. So I can do some first-person reporting, though I make no claims to being an analytical whiz where the ballteam is concerned. My pal Wilbur Miller will also be in Bradenton for some of the same time we're there, so I'll defer to him where scouting is concerned.
And who knows what else will come to mind or happen that might be worth some typing.
